This is my reaction story to President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban members of certain countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) from entering the United States. The move drew mixed reactions from community members in Iowa City, though most were condemnations.

Some interesting facts: Duke University reclaimed its title as the best in the South, Rice University, or the “Harvard of the South” came in second, and the third spot went to Vanderbilt University, who went four spots up. While I was interning at Forbes, I wrote a story on whether U.S. students would continue to study abroad in light of the terrorist attacks in the summer of 2017. I also looked at how terrorist attacks in the past, too, affected current trends and whether studying abroad is, in fact, a worthy investment because of the attacks.

During my internship at Forbes, I wrote an article on the Top 25 Public Schools in the U,S. A few interesting trends from this year’s list: a total of 20 coastal schools populate this list, six of which are UC schools. Military schools also dominated this list.

While on my internship at the Quad City Times, I wrote a feature story of the K-9 Dawn, who the Davenport Police Department was hoping to recruit. Davenport’s Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 26 partnered with the Davenport Police Department for its annual fundraiser in hopes of raising enough funds to donate a K-9 officer to the department’s Tactical Operations Bureau.
